Located in the Los Angeles metropolitan suburb of Walnut just two miles to the west of California State Polytechnic University, Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) is among the largest two-year community college in the state with 35,242 credit students and 43,156 continuing education students in attendance. Standing proudly on 420 acres at the foothills of the college's namesake Mt. San Antonio, the college serves nearly 20 communities and a million residents spread throughout the San Gabriel Valley. First founded in 1946, the college now offers students more than 200 degree and certification programs that have been accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
As one of only 36 colleges in the United States to offer the FAA College Training Initiative (CTI) program, Mt. San Antonio College is nationally acclaimed for its aviation and aircraft maintenance program that creates air traffic controllers nationwide. Mt. SAC also boasts the largest Associate of Science in Commercial Flight degree program in the state with hands-on training at the nearby Brackett Airport. In 2005, the college was awarded the Loening Trophy, thus distinguishing it as having the nation's Best Aviation Program. The Mt. SAC Flying Team of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association was ranked 1st in the nation for community colleges in 2013.
The remarkable Mt. San Antonio College's campus consists of state of the art laboratory facilities, multimedia/Internet connected classrooms, recently renovated baseball complex, extensive football field and stadium, two soccer fields, putting green, tennis courts, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Interestingly, the campus is also home to a 15-acre Wildlife Sanctuary to protect native bird, mammal, and insect species from overdevelopment in Walnut. Within the music and dance theatre, the choral music department hosts the award-winning Chamber Singers, which has won three gold medals and the prestigious "Choir of the World."
Mt. SAC athletics is best known for its strong football program that won a National Championship in 2009 and men's soccer team that won the State Championship for three years in a row from 2009 to 2011. Nicknamed the Joe Mounties, Mt. San Antonio College also offers swimming, basketball, baseball, volleyball, tennis, wrestling, water polo, cross country, pep squad, and golf. Some notable alumni Mounties include professional MMA fighter Dan Henderson, NFL linebacker Antonio Pierce, MLB player Chris Woodward, NFL quarterback Mike Hohensee, and Olympic Gold Medalist Bob Seagren.
