Northeast Community College is a two-year postsecondary college institution that is situated on the northeast edge of the city of Norfolk, in the northeastern part of the state of Nebraska. The campus consists of nineteen academic buildings and on-campus housing halls spread of 771 acres. The incorporated 566 acres of farmland surrounding the college is evidence of its rural, countryside environment. In addition to the main campus, there are satellite campuses located in O'Neill, South Sioux City, and West Point. The modern college system offers educational opportunities for students throughout 20 counties in Nebraska.
First established by the state legislature in 1973, Northeast Community College was built to offer a comprehensive continuing education environment. It was formed through the merging of two distinct institutions, the Northeastern Nebraska College and the Northeast Nebraska Technical College. Within time, NECC became a unique college with its own identity in the state. Today, Northeast is the sole community college in Nebraska that provides one or two-year vocational, liberal arts, and adult education programs all on one convenient main campus. The school has become dedicated to providing lifelong learning opportunities to enhance effective and professional careers.
Northeast Community College has been accredited with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, as well as the Nebraska State Department of Education. The college is accredited for awarding two-year Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science, Associate in Nursing, one-year diplomas, and certificates in a multitude of academic programs. Just a few of the endless possibilities of study programs include animal science, biology, business, education, human services, information technology, physical therapy, pre-engineering, and theatre. The one and two-year wind energy programs are often recognized for preparing skilled students for the rapidly growing industry in Nebraska.
Well-known for having one of the lowest tuition prices in the state, students can receive a wide variety of high-quality education programs to start a great career at an affordable rate. The recognized career services department of Northeast Community College provides unparalleled resources for attaining employment right after graduation. From career coaching to career exploration and job fairs, the school is sure to assist with the employment needs of all current students and alumni. An amazing 98 percent of graduates from the class of 2011 are gainfully employed or continuing their education at a baccalaureate level.
