Brown University

This Ivy League School is situated in Providence, Rhode Island's capital. The undergraduate enrollment sits at just over 6,000, and the total cost to attend the school is almost 60,000 per year. Some of the popular majors consist of biology, English, history, engineering, economics and political science. The university is the oldest institution in the state as it was founded before the American Revolution. The faculty is considered among the best in the nation, and the classes are very challenging. While attending the school, you can take part in a writer's symposium, participate in theater or music productions or join an activist organization. The University of Rhode Island

Located in Kingston, this public university has an enrollment of around 13,000 undergraduate students. Some of the majors include geology, nursing, engineering, psychology and accounting. You can also choose to major in animal and veterinary science or journalism. The mascot is the Rams, and the school participates in the Atlantic 10 Conference; however, football competes in the Colonial Athletic Association. Johnson & Wales University

This private institution is located in Providence and has an undergraduate enrollment of almost 10,000. The school has students from all 50 states of the country and is a career-focused college. The university concentrates on business, culinary arts, technology, education and hospitality. If you wish to pursue a graduate degree, the college offers numerous master's and doctoral programs. The school is home to almost 100 clubs and organizations, and the college participates in NCAA Division III. On campus housing is available.

Economy

Greenhouse and nursery products provide over half of the state's agricultural revenue. Sweet corn, potatoes, apples and hay are also crucial to the state. Electrical equipment is the leading manufactured product in Rhode Island, and mining accounts for a small part of the state's economy. Fishing, healthcare, tourism and education also provide a good portion of the state's income. The unemployment rate in Rhode Island sits at about 8.9%, just above the national average; however, the rate has decreased in the past year.

The healthcare industry and the state of Rhode Island employ the most people of the state. Numerous jobs are also available in the United States federal government. A significant amount of job growth is expected over the next ten years. Healthcare support, healthcare practitioners and computer and mathematical jobs are predicted to see the biggest increase in employees. Fishing and farming are expected to grow, however, they will see the fewest change in employment numbers.
