Bainbridge State College is located in the city of Bainbridge, Georgia with a satellite location in Blakely, Georgia. Opened in 1973, the college celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2013 and on February 13th of that same year, officially changed its status to a 4-year state college. Bainbridge State College serves the student population in southwest Georgia as well as Gadsden County, Florida.
The main campus of Bainbridge State College sits alongside a lake on 173 acres of pine and oak tree-covered land. Acquired in 2006, the Blakely Early County site is located at the US Highway 27 Bypass and serves students in the Henry and Houston, Alabama counties. As a community institution, the college does not provide any on-campus housing but draws students from the nearby cities of Attapulgus, Blakely, Brinson, Cairo, Camilla, Climax, Colquitt, Donalsonville, Iron City, Pelham, Thomasville, and Whigham. It also encompasses the student community of Gadsden County, Florida. The city of Bainbridge has a population of 12,697 according to the 2010 U.S. Census. In addition to the college, the city offers a variety parks, wildlife areas and historic landmarks which enrich the college atmosphere.
Bainbridge State College offers a number of diploma programs, certificates and career degrees to provide students with the education they need to succeed in the workplace. These programs include associate degrees in the fields of art, science in nursing, and applied science. The college also provides Technical Certificates of Credit in a wide variety of areas from business office assistant to structural welding. In addition to these programs, Bainbridge State College offers Diplomas in over a dozen fields including accounting, cosmetology, criminal justice, early childhood care and education, and paramedic technology.
Extracurricular activities on the Bainbridge State College campus include student clubs and organizations, blood drives, movie days, tournaments, and bowling and game nights. The college also has a campus cafe, student wellness center and a student government organization. In addition to the activities and amenities on campus, Bainbridge State College also offers a variety of special services. These include online learning and tutoring, program worksheets, faculty web pages, student e-mail, and an online reading and writing tutorial.
Also located on the college campus is the Charles H. Kirbo Regional Center. Opened in 2008, the center provides both the college and the community with a local conference venue. It's modern design can accommodate large groups or smaller gatherings and is named in honor of the Bainbridge native who was both an attorney and a real estate executive.
The many programs, certificates and services offered by the institution have made Bainbridge State College one of the fastest growing in the state of Georgia with enrollment increasing by 52 percent since the fall of 2001. According to the college's president, Dr. Richard Carvajal, the institution's highly qualified faculty are dedicated to providing students with the individual attention required to help them reach their full potential.
