Located in beautiful Santa Barbara County, Allan Hancock College is recognized as one of the best community colleges in California. The school's history stretches back to 1920 when it was Santa Maria Junior College. Initially, classes took place in the local high school, but the campus has grown tremendously since then. It was moved to the former site of the Hancock airfield in the 1950s, which brought about its name change. Over the decades, several buildings were constructed. Some of these are still in use and have undergone renovation. Students enjoy a stimulating life on the modern campus where a wealth of cultural and social events are routinely held.
