As a highly diverse metropolitan public institution within the state university system, California State University – Dominguez Hills is situated on a park-like 346-acre suburban main campus in the city of Carson to serve the academic needs of the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.
With a total enrollment of around 13,900 students, CSUDH is strongly dedicated to connecting students to an affordable high-quality education in order to provide the local community with a vital resource for talent to thrive today and tomorrow.
First founded at the South Bay State College in 1960 when the Governor of California provided funds to begin development in Palos Verdes, the school was established due to the African American outcry for higher education opportunities in the region. However, by 1965, the campus was moved to the historic Rancho San Pedro site in Dominguez Hills to quickly play a major role in the region's economy.
Within a multi-cultural diverse learning community, CSU Dominguez Hills is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) to offer 45 undergraduate majors, 24 master's degrees, and numerous certificate programs. Along with being the administrative headquarters of the university system's statewide nursing program, CSUDH is well-known for offering exceptional programs in business administration, social work, occupational therapy, public affairs, and humanities.
Outside of the classroom, students also have the opportunity to explore their interests in the over 150 student-run clubs and organizations, including the thriving Greek community. With a total of 152 NCAA National Championships and 26 CCAA conference championships, the CSU Dominguez Hills Toros also sponsor 10 high-achieving varsity teams. Notable former Toros include actor Jeff Coopwood, actor Clarence Gilyard, musician Michael Happoldt, actress Niecy Nash, and Olympic gold-medalist Carmelita Jeter.
