Located on a beautiful 86-acre campus less than a mile off U.S. Highway 64 Bypass and US Interstate 95 in the mid-sized city of Rocky Mount in North Carolina, Nash Community College (NCC) is a public two-year comprehensive educational institution with an open-door admissions policy. First founded in 1967, the college has a mission of providing affordable higher education to prepare students for college transfers or rewarding careers. While Nash Community College primarily serves residents in Nash County, the convenient location often appeals to high school graduates in the surrounding counties of Wake, Edgecombe, Wilson, Franklin, and Halifax. Not only is the college operated under the authority of the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges, it is a strong institutional member of the American Association of Community Colleges.
Nash Community College is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCC) to award students Associate in Arts, Associate in Sciences, Associate in General Studies, and Associate in Applied Science degrees. NCC offers students 84 distinct academic programs that lead to associate's degrees, certificates, and diplomas. Within the AA and AS college transfer programs, students can utilize their knowledge and expertise to successfully transfer to four-year institutions seamlessly to achieve a bachelor's degree. In order to meet the diverse needs of citizens in Nash County, the college also provides Adult Basic Education, GED, Adult High School, vocational, occupational, and ESL programs.
Each year, Nash Community College enrolls more than 4,850 credit students and 7,250 non-credit students into its various continuing education courses. Some of the unique career programs that are popular among students at Nash include Culinary Arts, Biotechnology, Truck Driving, Law Enforcement, Advertising, Machining, Graphic Design, and Medical Assisting. According to the 2011 NCC Performance Measures report, 97 percent of graduates reported satisfaction with their education and 100 percent of employers reported satisfaction with the preparation provided to the Nash Community College graduates they hired.
Since NCC realizes the tremendous role of student organizations and clubs in supplementing a student's college experience, the Student and Enrollment Services Office organizes a number of ways for students to get involved. For instance, students can participate in Artistic Designers Club, Criminal Justice Club, Drama Club, Gamma Beta Phi Society, Men Achieving Leadership and Excellence (MALE), Phi Beta Lambda, Published Ink, and Student Government. The Nash Community College Foundation also sponsors the Student Ambassador program for students with strong leadership, communication, and scholarship skills to represent the college at a variety of school-related functions.
