As one of the 58 public two-year comprehensive community colleges within the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), Stanly Community College (SCC) is located in the small rural town of Albemarle, North Carolina with a satellite campus in the nearby rural setting of Locust, North Carolina. Due to an understanding that students lead busy lives, SCC also offers students a flexible online learning environment with the innovative virtual Moodle campus. Through vast international connections around the globe, Stanly Community College hosts a Study Abroad program for college credit and deep cultural immersion in China, Costa Rica, Japan, France, Peru, and Spain.
First chartered in 1971 within South Albemarle High School, Stanly Community College began by offering courses in auto mechanics, air conditioning, refrigeration, secretarial science, industrial management, and brick masonry to just 31 students. Within five months time, the college grew to nearly 400 students and plans were underway for the construction of a separate campus. In October of 1975, the main Academic/Administration Building opened its doors on the current campus in Albemarle. In 2003, the campus expanded to Locust at the 33,000 square foot Crutchfield Education Center. Today, the Locust campus is home to the regionally recognized Carolina Auction Academy and the training center for law enforcement officials.
Stanly Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCC) to grant its more than 10,000 students Associate of Arts, Associate of Sciences, Associate in General Education, and Associate of Applied Sciences degrees.
