Brief Description

Just one and a half miles off the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean, Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine is located within a modern two-story medical complex in the heart of downtown Santa Monica, California. First established in 1983, the college is partnered with Daniel Freeman Hospital of Los Angeles, UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Health Center, USC Keck School of Medicine, Cedars Sinai Hospital, and Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center. Considered to be founded as a community of healers, Emperor's College is home for some of the best and most prestigious Traditional Oriental Medicine faculty members who are leaders in advancing the field.

As one of the most comprehensive in the nation, Emperor's College offers a four-year Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine program, consisting of 224 academic units and 970 clinical hours. Students are fully immersed in the didactic theory of acupuncture, herbal medicine, Chinese internal medicine, therapeutic exercises, and Western medicine for a well-rounded education. Emperor's College also provides students with a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) program with a unique specialization in Internal and Physical Medicine. Within 600 hours of academic units and 650 hours of advanced clinical rotations, the doctoral training program is based on a cohort peer-to-peer learning model with personalized clinical practice.

The Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). It is also fully approved by the California Acupuncture Board from the Department of Consumer Affairs. In addition to being qualified for the California Acupuncture Licensing examination, graduates from the programs are eligible for gaining national recognition with the NCCAOM examination from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Emperor's College is also approved by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for foreign students.

In order to enrich the studies and lives of students, the campus includes the Emperor's College Acupuncture Clinic. Serving more than 15,000 patients each year, it is considered one of the largest and busiest clinics dedicated to acupuncture and alternative healthcare in the United States. Along with the 18 treatment rooms in the large clinic, the Emperor's College Acupuncture Clinic hosts an herbal dispensary stocked with nearly 450 Chinese herbs, concentrated powders, and herbal formulas that local practitioners depend on. Under the supervision of trained and licensed acupuncturists, third and fourth-year interns gain hands-on experience to provide affordable complementary services to the community at large.
