Brief Description

Located in the small suburban town of Cottleville outside of St. Louis, St. Charles Community College (SCC) is a public, comprehensive two-year community college. Serving the fourth largest of the 12 community college districts in the state of Missouri, the college enrolls more than 11,100 credit students and 83,900 non-credit students annually. In fact, SCC is the higher learning choice for nearly one-fourth of high school graduates who reside in St. Charles County. Within the 12 buildings of the beautiful 235-acre Midwestern campus that has won architectural awards for its contemporary design, the greatly acclaimed Child Development Center is available at reduced fees for SCC students' children.

St. Charles Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools to grant students an Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, Career of Achievement, or Certificate of Specialization. Graduates from SCC career programs have a high rate of graduate employment with more than 75 percent landing a job in their desired field within six months of completion. In addition, SCC offers college transfer programs for students intending to further their education at a four-year institution with over 45 career interests, including business, information technology, engineering, health, law enforcement, and social services.

Nicknamed the Cougars and led by mascot Scooter McCougar, St. Charles Community College offers student athletes access to four intercollegiate varsity sports team within the Division I Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The four Cougar teams include men's soccer and baseball as well as women's softball and soccer. In November 2010, the Lady Cougars soccer team was victorious against Maple Woods Community College to win the Region XVI Women's DI Soccer Championship. SCC Athletics is also well-known for its roller hockey team that has brought home 11 National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association National Championship titles.

For students who are not athletically inclined, there are more than 30 student organizations and clubs offered by the SCC Student Activities Office, such as Student Senate, Phi Theta Kappa, and National Honor Society. The St. Charles Community College Quiz Bowl team has been crowned the top team in Division II of the NAQT Intercollegiate Championship Tournament. Furthermore, the student-run newspaper called SCCougar is an award-winning publication that has produced past Student Journalist of the Year winners.
